We will continue to run the MAC server mini for our mail server and office admin due to the 2 directors running IOS. ![]() Our IT Tech suggests that this system should be 4x faster than the WD NAS we tested yesterday. This system also has latest updated Linux software so will have no combatability issues in terms of SMB and Microsoft API standards. So no slowing down due to mail server or hosting anything. ![]() We will use the DS415+ just for Revit files and storage. It runs dual ethernet bonding (2x cables) to Gigabit switch. The Synology DS415+ we getting will have 4x 1TB WD Black Caviar HDDs with 64mB buffers running Raid5 and another 2TB usb 3.0 external for extra backup and taking home incase of disaster. Revit Application Workstation Cannot Connect to Revit Server Occasionally, you may find that Revit is unable to connect to Revit Server. The error (someone else is accessing the model) sometimes when syncing together all at once popped up for 5 seconds and went away and all elements updated on all locals seemlessly. No Revit Servers Are Shown in the List You start the Revit Server Administrator, but it does not list any Revit Server instances. The files didnt lock up, we worked on the same sheets and same views even and synced simultaneously and no problems. it has 4x hdds (oldish ones - 32mb buffers) running Raid5. ![]() It is recommended that you compare the performance of your virtual environment versus a physical environment. Yesterday we tested a WD NAS (not sure what model but it runs Linux 5.2 and hasnt been updated since 2012) also no ethernet bonding. Note: Revit Server performance in a virtual environment such as VMWare needs careful tuning to avoid significant performance issues, and you should allow for additional overhead beyond the basic requirements listed here. This Mac server also doesnt have dual ethernet bonding. Often the the new elements don't even update when syncing and worksets that were editable resets to non editable, which is rather dangerous. The server doesnt understand the way Revit worksharing syncs so its qeues the users syncing first and locks the file causing that revit error - (someone else accessing the model) and sometimes even when no one is busy syncing. but we migrated from working on IOS and Vectorworks to Revit and because the MACS are quite powerful we thought its better to save the money and just run windows natively) We Store the central files on the mac server and typically workshare with 3 users on a central at a time (100 - 150mb). ![]() At the moment We are 4 MAC workstations running bootcamp and windows natively connected to a MAC mini server.
